Brampton Excelsior Lacrosse Club, recognized as the longest-running community-owned sports franchise in Canada, will celebrate 150 years of lacrosse in 2022. It is a momentous occasion for our club and an opportunity to profile our founders, member and memories. We are so excited to be hosting the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) Junior “B” Championship – The Founder’s Cup.
The name “Excelsiors” meaning “more lofty, still higher, every upward” was adopted in 1871 when the sport was first introduced in Brampton and has remained a part of the franchise for more than 148 years. Over the year, lacrosse has become the bedrock of the sporting community in Brampton, and the organization has developed thousands of layers, coaches and officials at all levels of play. Many Excelsiors have been inducted into the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Memorial arena is our home base, a shrine to the organizations history.
Our club is well versed and experienced in hosting national lacrosse events such as the Mann Cup (1992, 1998, 2002, 2008) and the Minto Cup (2009, 2017), along with numerous provincial, regional and invitational tournaments.
